South Molle Island

Nestled between the Queensland Coast and the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef, South Molle Island is a gem in the heart of the Whitsunday’s 74 stunning islands. The largest of the Molle Island group, South Molle Island features undulating terrain and tropical flora including lush grasslands, rich areas of rainforest, private sheltered bays and outlying reefs. The Molle Islands are comprised of North, Mid and South Molle Islands and these are practically joined, a causeway enabling guests to walk from South Molle Island to Mid Molle Island at low tide. South Molle Island is home to an array of unique fauna with birdlife being the most prolific species inhabiting the island. Here you’ll find a vast number of boisterous and colourful birds including lorikeets, currawongs and even the endangered stone bush curlew.

South Molle Island is a little slice of paradise that you can enjoy at your own pace. You can relax on the sun-kissed beach and enjoy the breathtaking natural beauty of the island’s 16 km of walking tracks in the National Park. There are a range of activities that cater for every type of traveller allowing you to do as much or as little as you want. Green thumbs can explore the cool forests and enjoy the amazing views of the Whitsunday Islands from the many lookouts. If you’re feeling a little more energetic why not engage in a round of golf or a game of tennis or volleyball. You can also revel in the warm clear waters with a catamaran, windsurfer or paddle ski and for the more adventurous; there are also water skis and jet skis available. All non-motorised watercraft are free while motorised watercraft can be hired for a small fee.

The waters surrounding South Molle Island are absolutely pristine and are therefore extremely popular for snorkelling and scuba diving. Experienced divers can enjoy the reefs while tuition is available for beginners and inexperienced divers. With the Great Barrier Reef so close to the island there are plenty of tours to appreciate the stunning natural environment including sunset cruises, sailing trips, game fishing and scenic helicopter flights over the reef.
